{"id":3391,"date":"2026-10-08T17:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3391"},"modified":"2026-10-08T17:53:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:23:08","slug":"scrap-sir-remove-gyanesh-kumar-bring-back-ballot-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3391","title":{"rendered":"Scrap SIR, Remove Gyanesh Kumar, Bring Back Ballot Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>INDIA Bloc, Progressive Groups Stage \u2018Save Democracy March\u2019 in Pimpri-Chinchwad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pimpri-Chinchwad :<\/strong> The Pimpri-Chinchwad INDIA bloc, civil society groups and progressive and social organisations organised a \u2018Save Democracy March\u2019 on Wednesday, demanding the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and elections through ballot papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The march began at Vitthal Temple in Akurdi Gaon and proceeded towards the Tehsildar\u2019s office at Nigdi. A large number of citizens, social activists, office-bearers of various organisations and supporters of democratic and progressive movements participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants raised slogans such as \u201cSave Democracy, Save Constitution,\u201d \u201cScrap SIR,\u201d \u201cProtect Voters\u2019 Rights\u201d and \u201cHold Elections Through Ballot Papers.\u201d Through the march, the participants expressed their opposition to what they described as concerns over the electoral process and demanded greater transparency and fairness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Bombay High Court judge B.G. Kolse-Patil said the right to vote was at the centre of the democratic rights guaranteed by the Constitution. He stressed that no eligible citizen should be wrongly removed from the electoral rolls and that every voter must be able to exercise their franchise without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congress spokesperson Hanumant Pawar alleged that the SIR exercise was unconstitutional and claimed that the BJP-led government was attempting to undermine citizens\u2019 constitutional voting rights. He said the INDIA bloc would continue its campaign until the SIR process was withdrawn and Election Commission officials, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, were held accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protesters submitted a memorandum through the Tehsildar to the government and concerned authorities, demanding action on their concerns.
