{"id":3295,"date":"2026-10-05T10:58:58","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T05:28:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3295"},"modified":"2026-10-05T10:59:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T05:29:00","slug":"folk-maharashtra-brings-maharashtras-living-folk-heritage-to-the-new-generation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3295","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Folk Maharashtra\u2019 Brings Maharashtra\u2019s Living Folk Heritage to the New Generation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traditional music, instruments and the spirit of Maharashtra\u2019s folk culture take centre stage during Classical Marathi Language Week<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD :<\/strong> The rich folk heritage, traditional music and martial traditions of Maharashtra came alive through \u2018Folk Maharashtra\u2019, a vibrant cultural programme organised as part of the Classical Marathi Language Week being celebrated by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme offered audiences a glimpse into Maharashtra\u2019s folk culture through traditional singing, instrumental music and dance, highlighting the cultural traditions that have evolved through village fairs, festivals, religious celebrations and community life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was organised under the guidance of PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi and Additional Commissioner Vikrant Bagade, under the supervision of Special Officer and Marathi Language Coordination Officer Kiran Gaikwad. The Classical Marathi Language Week is being observed from October 3 to 9 to promote, preserve and spread the Marathi language and its cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2018Shivaji Raja Aala\u2019 evokes the spirit of valour<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme celebrated Maharashtra\u2019s history of courage and self-respect through powerful folk songs. The energetic rendition of \u2018Shivaji Raja Aala Re Majha\u2019 evoked the valour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, while \u2018Amhi Gadya Dongarche Rahnar, Chakar Shivbache Honar\u2019 brought alive memories of the Sahyadri and the warrior traditions associated with the Maratha era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The powerful vocals, rhythmic beats and spirited presentation created an atmosphere of enthusiasm, blending historical memory with Maharashtra\u2019s vibrant folk-art traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traditional instruments create a powerful musical experience<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the major attractions was the presentation of traditional Maharashtra instruments, including sambal, tasha, halgi, dhol, dholki, flute, harmonium, taal, zanj, ghungroo, gajdhol, daf, chanda and shehnai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deep sound of the sambal, energetic beats of the halgi and tasha, and rhythmic chime of the ghungroo highlighted the distinctive character of Maharashtra\u2019s folk music. The coordinated performance of the artistes added energy and authenticity to the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Folk traditions from \u2018Ghatoli\u2019 to \u2018Gadi Ghungarachi\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Songs such as \u2018Ghatoli\u2019 and \u2018Gadi Ghungarachi\u2019 further showcased the close connection between folk music and everyday life in Maharashtra. The combination of singing, instrumental music and dance presented the diversity and vibrancy of the state\u2019s folk traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Folk Maharashtra\u2019 thus became a celebration of Maharashtra\u2019s cultural identity while introducing the younger generation to its traditional art forms.
