{"id":3094,"date":"2026-09-29T12:13:19","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T06:43:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3094"},"modified":"2026-09-29T12:13:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T06:43:20","slug":"special-powers-granted-to-pimpri-chinchwad-police-ahead-of-legislative-council-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3094","title":{"rendered":"Special Powers Granted to Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Ahead of Legislative Council Polls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Powers under Maharashtra Police Act to regulate processions, loudspeakers and public meetings<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pune :<\/strong> The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have been granted special powers under Section 36 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, in areas under their jurisdiction where polling will be held for the 2026 Maharashtra Legislative Council Teachers\u2019 and Graduates\u2019 Constituencies elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move is aimed at ensuring that the election process is conducted in a peaceful, fearless and transparent environment and that law and order is maintained during the election period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pimpri-Chinchwad Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar has issued an order granting the special powers to police officers in the concerned election areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As per the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, polling will be held on October 23, 2026, while counting of votes will take place on October 27, 2026. The Model Code of Conduct will remain in force throughout the election process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Police station in-charges given authority<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the order, officers in charge of all police stations in the election areas have been authorised to issue written or verbal directions to ensure the smooth conduct of the election and maintain public order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The powers include regulating the conduct or actions of persons participating in gatherings or processions on public roads.
