All concerned government departments, institutions and citizens have been appealed to actively participate in the campaign, said Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision was discussed at a meeting of the District-Level Coordination Committee organised by the National Tobacco Control Programme and District Hospital under the chairmanship of Kadam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional District Surgeon Dr. Bhagyashree Patil, Dr Shantanu Jagdale and Lakhan Waghmare of Bhai Pratishthan, Jyoti Dhamal of Jijau Foundation and other committee members were present at the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee underlined the need for coordinated efforts to create awareness among youngsters about the health and social consequences of tobacco and drug addiction. The meeting discussed conducting anti-tobacco and anti-drug poster campaigns with the participation of college students, along with the installation of awareness boards, banners and the display of slogans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The message \u201cTobacco-Free Pune \u2013 Addiction-Free Pune\u201d will be promoted on a wider scale through public Ganesh mandals, voluntary organisations and youth groups. The campaign is expected to use the large public participation during Ganesh festival and Visarjan processions to spread awareness against tobacco consumption and substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was also decided that students, volunteers and representatives of non-governmental organisations participating in the campaign would be provided official identity cards.
