{"id":2189,"date":"2026-06-11T20:51:38","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T15:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=2189"},"modified":"2026-06-11T20:51:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T15:21:40","slug":"mahavitaran-under-fire-over-akurdi-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=2189","title":{"rendered":"Mahavitaran Under Fire Over Akurdi Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Association alleges rule violations, seeks action against officials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pimpri :<\/strong> Alleging a major irregularity in a power infrastructure project at an 11-acre industrial development in Akurdi, Pimpri-Chinchwad Electrical Contractors Association Executive President and Shiv Sena Pune District Organizer Santosh Saundankar on Thursday claimed that works worth \u20b92.28 crore were undertaken without an official work order, in violation of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) norms. He further alleged that senior Mahavitaran officials colluded in a financial irregularity amounting to \u20b920\u201325 crore. The alleged scam was brought to light through information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by Javed Mujawar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a media conversation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Electrical Contractors Association Executive President Santosh Saundankar, Association President Girish Bakshi, Vice President Manoj Harpale, Javed Mujawar, Secretary Nitin Bonde, Treasurer Vishal Rokade, Executive Committee Member Prashant Mahajan, and members Mahesh Mane, Arun Dhake, Tanaji Sasane, Mangesh Sonkamble, Pradeep Patil, Arun Badgujar, Manoj Sachdev, Suraj Barate, Sanjay Ingale, Rajnikant Kadam, Yogesh Pawar, Sanjeev Patil, Sagar Chavan, Om Pardeshi, Umesh Pardeshi, Manish Shelke, Chandrakant Suryawanshi, Ganesh Gade, and Jitendra Rathod, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Santosh Saundankar, Executive President of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Electrical Contractors Association, Mahavitaran norms mandate that projects with an electrical load exceeding 3.5 MVA must provide at least six gunthas of land for a substation before power connections are sanctioned. However, he alleged that construction meters were approved for the concerned project without obtaining the mandatory land, in violation of established regulations. He claimed that several contractors had previously been denied approvals on similar grounds, while officials appeared to have extended preferential treatment in this case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saundankar further alleged that works worth \u20b92.28 crore under the NSS scheme at an industrial unit in Akurdi were initiated without the issuance of an official work order. He claimed that approximately \u20b919 lakh was collected from consumers as CRA charges, whereas the applicable amount should have been between \u20b924 lakh and \u20b926 lakh. The entire process, he alleged, was carried out in violation of prescribed procedures. He also pointed out that power connections in Bhosari&#8217;s J-Block area had been withheld citing the same regulations, raising concerns over the selective implementation of rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Association President Girish Bakshi alleged that despite the absence of a formal work order, the contractor had already been allowed to commence site activities, including installation of switch feeder pillars, transformer plinths, GOD materials and work related to a 22 kV HT line. He claimed that efforts were being made to complete the project in haste. Bakshi further alleged that while the approved estimate provided for the laying of 750 metres of cable, only 250 metres had actually been installed. He also accused the contractor of carrying out excavation work on a footpath without obtaining permission from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, alleging that civic regulations had been ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Without the backing of senior Mahavitaran officials, no contractor would invest \u20b91 to \u20b91.5 crore in such a project,&#8221; Saundankar alleged, demanding an inquiry into the role of Superintending Engineer Sinhajirao Gaikwad, Executive Engineer Atul Devkar and Akurdi Division Executive Engineer Ashok Jadhav. He further alleged that Mahavitaran follows one set of rules for ordinary consumers and another for select beneficiaries. &#8220;Common citizens are asked to comply with regulations relating to red-zone restrictions, load approvals and power connections, while the same rules are allegedly overlooked for a chosen few,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association stated that complaints regarding the matter have been submitted to Maharashtra Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of State Meghna Bordikar and the Managing Director of Mahavitaran. Association Secretary Nitin Bonde demanded that an inquiry be completed within eight days and action be taken against those found responsible. He also called for the immediate suspension of the project until the investigation into the concerned officials is concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The allegations have once again raised questions over the functioning of Mahavitaran and brought the issue of alleged irregularities in the power distribution sector into the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Permission has been granted only for 11 to 12 power connections in Phase-I, and a 90-square-metre land agreement has been executed with the concerned company for this purpose. If the electrical load exceeds 3.5 MVA, additional land will be sought as per regulations. Approval has not been granted for the entire 11-acre project. All work will be carried out strictly in accordance with Mahavitaran norms. Allegations of financial irregularities will be investigated, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty. Mahavitaran has neither supplied any material for the project nor awarded the work to any contractor. If any work is being carried out independently, it will not be connected to our network.
