Pimpri :<\/strong> The Maharashtra government is set to establish a dedicated \u2018IT Study Cell\u2019 to address concerns faced by IT employees, including job insecurity, layoffs and alleged exploitation of freshers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move follows a meeting chaired by labour minister Akash Fundkar on Tuesday, where MLA Shankar Jagtap raised key issues affecting IT professionals, particularly in Hinjewadi and other IT hubs across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the proposed cell will include experts and focus on drafting sector-specific regulations, ensuring effective implementation of labour laws, and addressing complaints raised by employees. The discussion also covered the need to define IT employees under labour laws, regulate layoffs, and explore the creation of a dedicated IT tribunal or fast-track labour court for quicker grievance redressal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior officials from labour, industries and IT departments, along with representatives of IT employees\u2019 organisations, attended the meeting. A separate meeting is expected to be held soon in the presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to take the proposal forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proposals such as EPFO intervention for post-employment benefits, stricter monitoring of workplace committees, and checks on blacklisting of employees were also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIT employees contribute significantly to the state\u2019s economy, yet their job security and legal protection remain weak. A coordinated approach involving labour, industries and IT departments is needed. The proposed IT Study Cell will help frame concrete policies, and a decision at the chief minister\u2019s level is expected soon.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
