Poonam Pandey is currently the talk of the town, all because of a death hoax surrounding her. To raise awareness about cervical cancer, her team announced on social media that she had succumbed to the aforementioned illness. However, it turned out to be a stunt, and the model-actor is alive and in excellent health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On February 2, a post stating that Poonam Pandey had died was uploaded on her official Instagram handle. It stated that the cause of her death was cervical cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thereafter, Poonam Pandey\u2019s PR team released an official statement confirming the news of her demise. There were reports of her funeral being planned in Kanpur. The India Today Kanpur team tried to find information about her whereabouts, but nothing relevant could be established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PR team confirmed that Poonam\u2019s sister had called and said that the model-actor has died. As per the sources, they tried to contact Poonam\u2019s sister later through the day for details on her last rites but since the last call, her phone, was unreachable. The team also tried contacting Poonam\u2019s other family members and her team members but they were all unavailable. The India Today team reached Poonam\u2019s house in Mumbai\u2019s Andheri, where there was no one at the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A few hours later, the film fraternity started reacting to the sudden news of Poonam Pandey\u2019s death. Kangana Ranaut, Rakhi Sawant, Munawar Faruqui, Helly Shah and Pooja Bhatt, among others, expressed their grief, shock and condolences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A fraction of the industry, such as Rahul Vaidya, also speculated it to be false news while some stated this could be a ‘publicity stunt’. Others also speculated that Poonam\u2019s Instagram handle must have been hacked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Given Poonam\u2019s family was incommunicado after the death news was rolled out, speculations around the actual cause of her death took over social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday morning, February 3, India Today spoke to Poonam\u2019s bodyguard, Ameen Khan, who mentioned that he last dropped her off on January 29. He also said the model-actor never mentioned her illness to him or any of her staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On February 3, it was revealed that Poonam was, in fact, alive and in good health. Her supposed death was a way to spread awareness about cervical cancer. This unconventional way of approaching the disease surprised and disappointed people. Later on, many celebrities took to social media to condemn Poonam’s death hoax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
HER STATEMENT
After announcing that she was in excellent health, Poonam Pandey shared a statement on how ‘the news of her demise was startling’, it serves a ‘greater purpose’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement read, “I understand that the recent news of my supposed demise due to cervical cancer has taken a minute to digest and I appreciate the warmth and concern that the world has extended in the last 24 hours. This unexpected turn of events, albeit startling, serves a greater purpose (sic).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
